Kabul

Two words have come to sum up how we feel about Kabul: mediocre and overpriced. We want to like it, we really do, especially since everyone else seems to, but it is just lackluster. We had an extremely poor dinner experience at Kabul last year (where the operative words were BLAND and overpriced), but we decided to give them a second shot. We went back for lunch with 3 other friends, happily noting the lunch specials. M ordered a chicken shewarma pita and L ordered the vegetarian hummus platter, each for about 8 dollars.
The highlight of the lunch was M’s salad with really good yogurt-parsley house dressing. The afghan soup was also good – a type of meaty lentil stew. However, the main courses did not keep up the trend. The hummus was completely flavorless and thin, did not come with bread (one basket of pita was shared among the table) and topped with a weird blend of frozen green beans and watery marinara sauce (?). The chicken shewarma was passable, but nothing worth extra mention. Maybe we’re being harsh, but we’ve had the same food twice as good for half the price. We probably won’t be coming back to Kabul for a third shot.
