Representative Food Maps

Representative Food Maps

Thanks to our friend Marina for alerting us to this supremely appropriate linkHenry Hargreaves and Caitlin Levin are photographers that work with the themes of food and travel in creative ways, such as creating world maps made out of a representative food from that country. The US is represented by corn, China by noodles, and France by bread and cheese. Do you agree with the representative foods chosen?

Root Vegetables with Truffle Vinaigrette, by Chef Eric Briffard, Le Cinq

London-based photographer Richard Haughton specializes in capturing dishes by some of the world’s most creative chefs. Feature Shoot has an interview with Haughton, where he describes his techniques.

Do you work with a stylist to create the images?
“I don’t, it’s not necessary with these kinds of chefs. I work directly with the chef, deciding the best visual point of view for a particular dish, the best kind of plate, the best presentation.”

Coming soon….Next Sicily

Coming soon....Next Sicily

We had the rare luck of snagging a ticket to the latest iteration of Grant Achatz’ eclectic Next restaurant, Sicily (for once, sitting at a computer and hitting “refresh” 400 times had a payoff). We visited Sicily on our honeymoon, so we are highly anticipating Achatz’ take on Sicilian home cooking. Our ticket is for this week, so you can expect a report back soon. In the meantime, check out our report of Next’s Thailand menu from last year. Update: Check out our full Next Sicily review here.

Paris vs. NYC

Paris vs. NYC

Macarons vs. Cupcakes, Cheese vs. Cheesecake, Patisserie vs. Pastrami. Vahram Muratyan’s Paris vs. NYC blog compares the cuisines, attitudes and styles of each iconic city in colorful graphics. While we were in Paris we saw the book based on the blog for sale, and it is now available stateside! You can buy the book online, along with art prints of the images.

What is an orange?

What is an orange?

Cut Squash has an amazing infographic about the various hybrids that make up the citrus fruits we know and love. Very informative and surprising.
